REGULAR CLUB RIDES (All rides are open to non-members) 

Ride rules to keep everyone safe: follow traffic laws, yield to pedestrians, no aero bars in pacelines, no headphones, wear a helmet, carry what you need to fix a flat...spare tube, CO2 or pump, and tire levers even if you don't know how, follow paceline 101 riding rules, be nice, share interesting tales and have lots of fun. 

Coastal Cyclists - Pacelines 101

Rides don't get canceled when weather conditions are questionable. Interested riders just show up if they want to ride. 

MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY AWENDAW/FRANCIS MARION BIKE RIDES

Bob Markisello led 32-mile (19-21 mph average ) No-drop Ride

  • When: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

  • Where: Sewee Outpost, 4853 Highway 17, Awendaw, SC (meet and park in lot off service road behind store) 

  • Time: 9 am unless bad weather dictates a ride start delay  

  • Distance: 31 miles

  • Speed: 19-21 mph average, no-drop ride

Kelly Holsten 32 or 42 mile DROP RIDE (22.5 -23.5 mph ride average) 
  • When: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

  • Where: Sewee Outpost, 4853 Highway 17, Awendaw, SC (meet and park off service road between Outpost & Sewee Rd) 

  • Time: 9:05 am unless bad weather dictates a ride start delay

  • Distance: 31 or 41 miles

  • Speed: 22.5 - 23.5 mph ride average.  Last 5 mile stretch speeds vary from 25-30 mph.  

  • Route:  Flat Francis Marion Forest loop. Loop direction and distance varies.

  • Details: This ride puts an emphasis on smoothness, form, speed with efficiency, and quiet on the bike. The rides are more for working as one verses putting others into difficulty.  Generally really for more experienced riders able to handle the bike at speed in a high functioning paceline. Developing riders are advised to hang on back to get acclimated. **Although this is technically a "drop ride," attention is paid to helping riders improve skills and is not a goal to leave anyone behind. But riders should join with awareness this could happen ~ kh 

WEDNESDAY SOCIAL ROAD BIKE RIDE

  • When: Wednesday

  • Where: Varies but typically leaves from Sullivan's Island Fire Station, 2050 Middle St, Sullivan's Island, SC. First time, visiting, and returning riders should verify ride start location with Fred Rosenberg.  

  • Time: 9:30 am or 10 am

  • Distance: 25-30 miles (with shorter options)

  • Speed: 15-17 mph - no drop ride

  • Route: Typically ride Sullivan’s Island & Isle of Palms, occasional Meggett route ride

BARN JAM (suspended until March 2024)

  • When: Wednesday

  • Where: Leave from Doillar General, Awendaw, SC

  • Time: 6:00 pm

  • Distance: 33 and 26 miles

  • Speed: 21 and 18 mph - no drop ride

SATURDAY JAMES ISLAND ROAD BIKE RIDE

  • Where: Golds Gym Parking Lot, 1291 Folly Rd, Charleston, SC

  • Time: 8:00 AM AS OF APRIL 15, 2023.  9:00 am during winter.  Will change back to 8:00 am in spring. (Start time changes seasonally.  Check the calendar for current time)

  • Distance: 30 miles

  • Speed: 

  • No official groups but speeds range from 17 mph to well over 22 mph

SATURDAY SUMMERVILLE CVS ROAD RIDE 

  • Where: CVS Parking Lot, 10599 Dorchester Rd, Summerville, SC 29485 (corner of Dorchester Rd. and Bacons Bridge Rd., i.e. Hwy 642 and Hwy 165)  
  • Time: 8:00 am start time year around  
  • Distance: ~54 miles  
  • Speed: ~21-23mph with possible sprints up over 25mph

  • Details: Our longest standing fast Summerville ride! Heads toward Summers Corner and down Summers Road, turns right for an out-and-back on Clubhouse Road and then heads toward either Ravenel or Ridgeville.  One store stop a little more than half way through for rest and refueling before heading back.  

SUNDAY TOWNE CENTRE ROAD RIDE
(Every Sunday EXCEPT the 3rd Sunday of each month)  

  • Where: Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, in the parking area in front of Men's Wearhouse, 1700 Towne Centre Way

  • Time: 8:00 am

  • Distance: 30-40 miles (there are some options)

  • Speed: 17-20 mph, no-drop ride

  • Details: Our most visually interesting loop ride. Meet in the parking lot in front of Men's Wearhouse. Ride to Patriots Point (with an optional Ravenel Bridge crossing), through Mt Pleasant's historic Old Village area, across Ben Sawyer Bridge to Sullivan's Island, across Isle of Palms, and across IOP Connector Bridge to Towne Centre starting location.  Three stops to regroup and socialize.

    • Where:  Donnelly Wildlife Area (85 Donnely Dr, Green Pond, SC)
    • Time: 9:00 am 
    • Distance: 25 Miles
    • Speed: 12-14 mph

    • Details: 25 mile gravel ride through one of the Lowcountry's most scenic areas. Bring bug spray.

    SUNDAY DANIEL ISLAND ROAD RIDE

    Section 1 of the ride: "South Side Ride"

    • Where: Meet at Guggenheim Terrace (located across from Central Island Street) on Island Park Drive, Daniel Island SC

    • Time: 2:00 PM- 3 PM Sunday afternoon. (always confirm with the ride contact)

    • Distance: 13 miles

    • Speed: 13-17 mph - This 2PM ride rolls faster than longer 3 PM ride, riders should be able to maintain 12 mph as a minimum during the ride 

    • Route: South Side Ride - loops back to Guggenheim Terrace for the 3 pm ride

    Section 2 of the ride: " Park Side Ride"

    • Where: Meet at Guggenheim Park (across from O2 Fitness and New Realm) on Daniel Island Drive, Daniel Island SC
    • Time: 3:00 PM- 4 PM Sunday afternoon. (always confirm with the ride contact)

    • Distance: 17 miles

    • Speed: 13-17 mph - riders should be able to maintain 12 mph as a minimum during the ride

    • Route: Park Side Ride

    • Details: Helmets required. Anyone may ride either sections or both sections of the ride. Post ride social gathering at local eating establishments. An RSVP is requested so we don't leave if you are on the way. Generally, we wait 5 minutes before setting off. Ride notice on Fridays. Cancellations if rain forecasts on Sunday.
